Public education in the Swifts Creek region has existed for over 125 years. In earlier times education simply covered primary levels, but later initiatives saw the introduction of higher levels to the local school system.

Swifts Creek Secondary College was founded in 1978 (then Swifts Creek High School) when the Swifts Creek and Omeo Consolidated Schools merged to form a single Year 7 - 12 secondary school.

We have relatively new school buildings, with the original 'A' block buildings dating from the 1970s, and the later 'P' block dating from the early 1980s. The school has undergone several facelifts over the years, in particular with the implementation of the 'P' block, which included relocation or establishment of the art and wood/metal areas, along with several general purpose classrooms.

The school underwent a major refurbishment and maintenance program in 1999.
